The Christmas lighting display has been a tradition for the city of Medellin for over 50 years. Each year, residents and tourists anxiously wait to see what EPM has in store for the City of Eternal Spring, and always is expect it to be even more beautiful than the year before. 'Fountain of Lights' will be the theme for this year's annual Christmas lights spectacular in Medellin as a tribute to water. The city is investing 20 billion pesos(10 million US) to make water flow from trees, walkways, and overhangs in the streets.
The 15 million bulbs display starts December on 5. Covering one mile, it will include various representations of waterfalls, waves, and rains, with some exhibitions reaching up to130 feet.
New types of design and technology will be used, integrating water, light, and sound to give new affect to the programming. Shows will use collared LED lights mounted on fountains with circulating water to portray rhythmic figures jumping in the air in time with music.
To make all the magic real generated by this scenario, the city needs 1600 water ejectors programmed by computer. To produce the change of colors and water movement. The water ejectors can get up to 5 meters high. There will be no wastage of water because the engineers designed a special system of circulation with pumps to ensure continuous water flow with this system they will recycle the water always using the same level of water.
This line of clean water controlled by EPM will stay definitely in the river, for future city events.
